A Russian space probe launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan yesterday, intended to collect rocks, dust and general litter from the surface of the Martian moon Phobos, reportedly veered off course within hours of starting its 33-month mission.
Oleg Pissedoffsky, chief science boffin at the Russian space agency Klustafucks, informed one media hack from the Snafu Gazette that the fault is thought to lie with a loose track rod end on the power steering system that caused the Kakashka 1 spacecraft to take a left at the Moon instead of a right.
While the probe will now miss Mars and Phobos by several billion miles, the onboard computer systems are being reprogrammed to compensate for the faulty guidance hardware installed by Kwik-Fit - and now intend to have it go into orbit around Pluto in 2018.
